One of the coolest things I experienced at this month's charter yacht show in Genoa, Italy, was a demonstration of the soundproofing aboard the 295-foot motoryacht Nero. At first, I thought the stewardess was trying to impress me with a gimmick when she cranked up the music in one guest cabin, then asked me to go across the hall to the next cabin to see if I could hear any music at all.


I quickly realized that the soundproofing aboard Nero is no gimmick. In fact, this yacht appears to be one of the quietest I've been aboard.


I'm told that engine noise is just as minimal in the guest cabins as loud music is from one cabin to the next. You can experience the quiet for yourself by watching this two-minute video, which includes the stewardess's demonstration:
